Kuria Labeo (Kuri Local-কুঢ়ি)

The Kuria labeo, a medium-sized carp native to rivers in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and Myanmar, boasts an impressive size, reaching up to 1.5 meters long. Its elongated body displays a greenish black back that transitions to lighter sides, and its blunt mouth is equipped with short barbells for sifting food. This omnivore enjoys a varied diet of algae, plants, small invertebrates, and detritus, making it a valuable contributor to the river ecosystem. Despite its importance as a food fish and its cultivation in ponds for aquaculture, the Kuria labeo's healthy population allows it to maintain a Least Concern conservation status.
